It is important to recognise that in some cases, it may not be an adult who is carrying out the abuse. In the case of bullying, the abuser is often another young person.
Bullying may be defined as deliberate, hurtful behaviour in the form of physical, psychological or aggressive verbal conduct against another person. Bullying can take many forms but the three main types are physical (e.g. hitting, kicking, theft), verbal (e.g. racist or homophobic remarks, threats, name calling) and emotional (e.g. isolating an individual from the activities and social acceptance of a peer group).
Victims of bullying are typically shy, timid and sensitive. Bullies frequently have low self-esteem, are aggressive and manipulative in order to gain power over others.
Teachers and officials hold a position of power in the relationship with their athletes and must not abuse this position to bully the children or vulnerable adults in their care. An overzealous teacher, or one who resorts to aggressive physical or verbal behaviour, tormenting, humiliating or ignoring a person, may be accused of bullying. In some instances, parents can bully their children by pushing them too hard.
Symptoms that may indicate that a person is being bullied might include:
Behavioural changes such as a reluctance to attend school or activities previously enjoyed; tearfulness; depression; erratic emotions and loss of concentration.
Physical symptoms such as stomach aches, headaches, difficulty in sleeping, bed-wetting, bruising, scratching or damaged clothing and bingeing on food, alcohol or cigarettes.
Performance levels may also drop.
Regardless of who the perpetrator might be, the signs of bullying should be reported to a person of responsibility. It is important that bullying is recognised and appropriate action is taken with anti-bullying strategies.

Dancing is an activity where injuries can occur.
Injuries must be reported to the teacher or coach by the students. This is important to be aware they have hurt themselves.
When an injury occurs at our studio we will complete an injury record for the parent. Depending on the severity of the injury we do expect the parent to take the student to a physiotherapist or appropriate medical practitioner of choice.
Students who have been injured must present a clearance report from their practitioner stating they are able to return to classes. If the injury is ongoing we must receive reports regularly so we are aware of the restrictions placed on the student.
We are not liable for personal injuries.
This is to clearly define our expectations and guidelines for members engaging in social media that relates to its studio or members.
You must be clear and ensure any information is factual and accurate.
Any information must respect individuals and the studio.
Information must not damage in any way the studios or members reputations or bring disrepute.
No member is permitted to record or take photographs at our studios without permission from the director or teacher.
Classes will not be run if the temperature reaches 38 degrees to ensure the safety of the students. This will be determined by the Bureau of Meteorology.
Once the temperature reaches 38 degrees we will confirm through an email and on our Facebook page. You may collect students immediately.
Staff will not leave students unattended on these days.
There are no refunds for cancelled classes on hot weather days. Makeup classes may be done at a similar standard or style. This needs to be organised through reception.
Please ensure that students bring their water bottles in hot weather and bring a small flannel they can wet and use to cool down.
Classes on hot weather days are adjusted to accommodate the heat.
